Jim Legxacy Returns with His Electrifying New Single ‘4LeafClover’
The famed underground titan Jim Legxacy wows us with his long-awaited follow-up to his smash 2019 EP.
The UK Rap scene has a lot of players on the chessboard. Lots of rappers clammer for commercial success and notoriety on the charts. However, a lot of the mainstream soundscape can be safe, tame and stale.
Few artists try to step out of their comfort zone and create something well and truly unique. Jim Legxacy’s music is the antidote to the problem at hand. Born James Olaloye, the 21-year-old South East London rapper, singer and producer has been slowly but surely making his mark.
Legxacy’s career started around 2017 after he built up his rep after bagging a Mixtape Madness feature and dropping tracks on Soundcloud.
Legxacy then pivoted to his commercial debut in ‘Dynasty Program: A Metrical Composition Inspired by the Nights Spent as the Raiider’ released in November 2019. Since the release of Dynasty, Legxacy has teased fans with the promise of new music, only fuelling the hype.
For the Dynasty Program EP, Jim bagged well over 100,000 streams on Spotify independently. The stats further supported Legxacy’s destiny as a future star in the making. Songs like Bloodstains1983 are tragically more relevant than ever in the wake of system racism and corruption happening around the globe.
Legxacy’s eye for concepts, aesthetic and narrative are prevalent all throughout Dynasty. The EP is packed with a sci-fi-like narrative ripped straight out of a Japanese manga. Sonically, the project blended alt-rock, industrial hip-hop and R&B effortlessly.
Legxacy’s genius is that he manages to rap well in a cohesive, clear manner without coming across as corny, something emcees can do all too easily.
Lyrically, Legxacy is reminiscent of artists like; Kanye West, MF DOOM, Skepta and JPEGMAFIA. On the other hand, his melodies and production are more akin to indie sounds like Bon Iver, Paramore or Frank Ocean. Jim manages to pull together his eclectic range of inspiration into one package. Listening to Jim Legxacy is like being on a rollercoaster that ascends to outer space.
4LeafClover is stuffed with a rough, commanding performance from Legxacy. The track perfectly measures a catchy melody with the substantive subject matter. In the first verse, Jim paints a picture of his crime-riddled environment as people around him get incarcerated. This narrative further adds the realistic position many black youths find themselves in.
Speaking on the track, Jim said:
There’s only so much we can discuss without giving too much away. Listen to Jim Legxacy on all major platforms here.
